French Navy Ame`thyste S-605, SSN   The lead boat in a second batch of two hulls, derives from the Rubis class but considered officially a different class-Ame`tyste class, known also as improved Rubis, later on the Rubis were modernized to meet the Ame`thyste standard.   Ame`thyste, a nuclear attack submarine, was laid down at Cherbourg Naval Dockyards on October 11, 1984; launched on May 14, 1988 and commissioned March 20, 1992.   Back to History Index   Image Country Year Description Comoros 1999 French submarine Ame'thyste S-605, SSN
